Rooted in Scripture

What We Believe & Why It Matters

At Heart Bible College, doctrine is not a side note or a formality. It shapes what we teach, how we teach, and what we expect students to handle faithfully. Our doctrinal statement exists to make our convictions plain, to keep our teaching accountable to Scripture, and to help students know the ground on which they are standing.

Scripture Governs Our Teaching

We believe doctrine must be drawn from the Word of God, not from preference, trend, or institutional convenience. Our doctrinal statement exists to show the biblical convictions that shape our teaching.

Clarity Builds Trust

Students, families, pastors, and ministry partners should not have to guess what we believe. We state our convictions plainly so that our teaching, leadership, and training can be weighed honestly and understood clearly.

Truth Must Be Lived out

We do not treat doctrine as decoration. What we believe affects how we live, how we serve, how we counsel, and how we prepare students for faithful ministry in the real world. Our lives reveal what we believe.

Our Statement of Faith

GOD

We believe there is one living and true God, the Creator and Ruler of heaven and earth, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power, justice, goodness, and truth. He is one God, eternally existing in three Persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—of one essence, equal in glory, and undivided in being. He alone is worthy of all worship, trust, and obedience.

Scripture:
Genesis 1:1, 26–27; Deuteronomy 6:4; Psalm 90:2; Isaiah 45:5–6; Matthew 28:19; John 14:9–11, 26; 2 Corinthians 13:14; 1 Peter 1:2

JESUS CHRIST

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is the eternal Son and Word of God, who was with God and was God. In the fullness of time, He became truly man without ceasing to be truly God, having been conceived by the Holy Ghost and born of the virgin Mary. He lived in perfect righteousness, fulfilled the will of the Father, and gave Himself for our sins.

We believe that Christ died for us, the Just for the unjust, bearing our sins in His own body on the tree, that He might reconcile us to God. His death was a true and sufficient sacrifice for sin. He was buried, rose again bodily the third day according to the Scriptures, ascended into heaven, and now sits at the right hand of the Father as our High Priest, Advocate, and Intercessor. He shall come again personally, visibly, and in power, and shall reign openly as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Scripture:
Isaiah 7:14; 9:6; Matthew 1:22–23; John 1:1–5, 14; Luke 1:35; Acts 1:9–11; Romans 3:24–26; 5:6–10; 2 Corinthians 5:18–21; Galatians 4:4–5; Philippians 2:5–11; Hebrews 4:14–15; 7:25; 9:24–28; 1 Peter 2:24; 3:18; 1 John 2:1–2; Titus 2:13; Revelation 19:16

THE HOLY SPIRIT

We believe that the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God, fully divine, proceeding from the Father and sent by the Son. He convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment, glorifies Christ, and gives understanding of the truth. He regenerates, indwells, seals, sanctifies, teaches, comforts, and empowers those who belong to Christ.

We believe that every true believer receives the Holy Spirit and is called to walk in the Spirit, not grieving Him but yielding to His holy rule. He gives spiritual gifts to believers according to His will for edification and service, and we seek to live daily under His control.

Scripture:
John 14:16–17, 26; 16:7–14; Acts 1:8; Romans 8:9–16; 1 Corinthians 2:10–16; 3:16; 12:4–11; Galatians 5:16–25; Ephesians 1:13–14; 4:30; 5:18

THE HOLY SCRIPTURES

We believe that the Holy Scriptures are given by inspiration of God and are therefore true, trustworthy, profitable, and authoritative. Holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. The Scriptures are God-breathed and are able to make us wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

We believe that the Bible is the supreme source of truth for Christian faith and life, the single most important source of our knowledge of God and His works, and the sole and final authority for faith and practice. Because it is inspired by God, it is truth without mixture of error.

We believe that the Word of God must be received with humility, searched diligently, and interpreted faithfully according to its words, context, and testimony as given by God. We gladly use the Authorized King James Version in our teaching and preaching.

Scripture: Psalm 19:7–11; Psalm 119:89, 105, 160; Proverbs 30:5; Luke 24:27, 44–45; Acts 17:11; 2 Timothy 1:13; 3:15–17; 2 Peter 1:19–21

SCRIPTURAL PRESERVATION

We believe in the verbal, plenary inspiration of the Scriptures as originally given, and in God’s faithful preservation of His pure words to every generation. We believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments to be the Word of God, as it is in truth.

We receive the Masoretic Text of the Old Testament and the Received Text of the New Testament as the textual basis we use, and we gladly use the Authorized King James Version as the English Bible in our teaching, preaching, and institutional life. The Bible is our sole and final authority for faith and practice.

Scripture:
Psalm 12:6–7; Matthew 5:18; 24:35; 1 Thessalonians 2:13; 2 Timothy 3:16; 1 Peter 1:23–25

BIBLE EDUCATION

We believe that one of the high callings of the local church is to teach the Scriptures faithfully and to provide sound biblical instruction, guidance, and training to those who desire to know Christ, grow in grace, and serve the Lord. We believe that Bible education and spiritual training are not secondary matters, but worthy priorities in the life of the church.

We believe that Christ-centered education is not confined to the classroom, but concerns the formation of the whole person—spiritually, intellectually, morally, and practically. Therefore, instruction, discipline, study, worship, and service all belong to the work of Christian education.

We believe that Scripture presents a pattern of serious instruction in the things of God: in the training associated with the schools of the prophets, in Paul’s study under Gamaliel, in his thorough teaching at Ephesus, and in Christ’s gift of pastors and teachers for the perfecting of the saints. For this reason, we affirm the value of rigorous Bible education for pastors, missionaries, counselors, and faithful laymen and women alike.

Scripture:
Deuteronomy 6:6–9; 2 Kings 2:3; 6:1–2; Ezra 7:10; Luke 2:52; Acts 19:9–10; 20:27, 31; 22:3; Ephesians 4:11–13; 2 Timothy 2:2; 3:14–17

HUMANITY

We believe that mankind was created by God in His image and likeness and therefore bears dignity and accountability before Him. Humanity is the supreme object of God’s earthly creation. Yet through sin, man fell from righteousness and came under death and condemnation. All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.

We believe that apart from the grace of God, man is dead in trespasses and sins, darkened in understanding, and unable to cleanse or recover himself by his own power, wisdom, or works. Though man retains great dignity as God’s image-bearer, he is marred by sin and separated from God.

Scripture:
Genesis 1:26–27; Psalm 8:3–6; 51:5; Isaiah 53:6; 59:1–2; Jeremiah 17:9; Romans 3:10–23; 5:12; 6:23; Ephesians 2:1–3

SALVATION

We believe that salvation is of the Lord and is given by grace, not earned by works, merit, or self-reformation. Jesus Christ is the only Savior, and there is no other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved.

We believe that the gospel calls men everywhere to repent and believe. Saving faith is not mere agreement with facts, but a true turning of the heart to God through Jesus Christ. Repentance and faith are not works by which man earns salvation, but the God-ordained response to the gospel. Those who come to Christ are forgiven, justified, reconciled to God, born again by the Spirit, and made new creatures in Christ.

We believe that eternal life begins when one truly receives Jesus Christ by faith. We believe that salvation is unto holiness. Good works do not save, but neither does saving grace leave a man unchanged. The same Lord who saves His people from wrath also saves them from lawlessness and teaches them to deny ungodliness and to live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world.

We deny that the grace of God gives liberty to continue in known sin without repentance. The gospel not only pardons; it transforms.

Scripture:
Isaiah 55:6–7; Ezekiel 36:25–27; Mark 1:14–15; Luke 24:46–47; John 1:12–13; 3:3–8, 16–18; 14:6; Acts 2:37–39; 3:19; 17:30–31; 20:21; Romans 3:21–28; 5:1, 8–10; 6:23; 10:9–13; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Ephesians 2:8–10; Titus 2:11–14; 3:3–7; Hebrews 6:1; 1 Peter 1:22–23

ASSURANCE AND PERSEVERANCE

We believe that those who truly belong to Christ are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation. Eternal life is the gift of God in His Son, and none can pluck Christ’s sheep out of His hand. Our confidence rests not in the strength of man, but in the faithfulness of God and the sufficiency of Christ.

We also believe that the Scriptures give real warnings against empty profession, unbelief, hardness of heart, and continuance in sin. Therefore, assurance must not be grounded in a mere past decision, but in Christ Himself, His promises, and the present fruit of a living faith. Those whom God saves, He also disciplines, sanctifies, and teaches to continue in the faith.

Scripture:
John 10:27–30; Romans 8:28–39; Philippians 1:6; Colossians 1:21–23; 2 Timothy 1:12; Hebrews 3:12–14; 10:14, 23, 35–39; 12:5–11; 1 Peter 1:3–5; 1 John 2:3–6, 19; 5:11–13

ETERNITY

We believe that mankind was made to exist forever. The unrepentant will be raised unto judgment and everlasting punishment; the redeemed will dwell forever with the Lord in everlasting life and joy. Heaven and hell are real, and God will judge the world in righteousness through Jesus Christ.

Scripture:
Daniel 12:2; Matthew 25:31–46; John 5:28–29; 14:1–3; Romans 2:5–11; 6:23; 2 Thessalonians 1:7–10; Revelation 20:11–15; 21:1–8

CREATION

We believe that God created the heaven and the earth in six days as recorded in Genesis, and that creation is His direct and purposeful work, not the product of blind chance or unguided process.

Scripture:
Genesis 1–2; Exodus 20:11; Psalm 33:6–9; John 1:3; Colossians 1:16–17; Hebrews 11:3

THE RETURN OF CHRIST

We believe in the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ. He shall return personally, visibly, and in power. The dead shall be raised, all men shall stand before Him, and He shall bring to completion the kingdom purposes of God in righteousness. He shall reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Scripture:
Matthew 24:29–31; John 5:28–29; Acts 1:11; 1 Corinthians 15:20–28, 51–58; Philippians 3:20–21; 1 Thessalonians 4:13–18; 5:1–11; Titus 2:13; 2 Thessalonians 1:7–10; Revelation 19:11–16; 20:1–6

THE CHURCH

We believe that the church of Jesus Christ is made up of all who are united to Him by faith, and that local churches are visible assemblies of believers gathered in His name for worship, prayer, fellowship, doctrine, the ordinances, discipline, and the work of the ministry.

We believe that the Lord has entrusted His churches with the preaching of the gospel, the making of disciples, the baptism of believers, and the remembrance of Christ in the Lord’s Supper. Christ is the Head of the church. He gives pastors and teachers for the feeding and oversight of the flock, and He calls His people not only to receive ministry, but also to bear one another’s burdens, pursue holiness, and build up the body in love.

We believe that each local church is accountable to Christ, under the authority of His Word, and is not to be ruled by worldly power or governed contrary to Scripture. We also believe that well-instructed believers—whether called to vocational ministry or faithful service as laymen and women—are a great strength and help to the life of the local church.

Scripture:
Matthew 16:18; 18:15–20; 28:18–20; Acts 2:41–47; 11:19–26; 20:28; 1 Corinthians 11:23–32; 12:12–27; Ephesians 1:22–23; 4:11–16; 5:25–27; Colossians 1:18; 1 Timothy 3:1–15; Hebrews 10:24–25; 13:7, 17; 1 Peter 5:1–4
